Comfort & recovery
Does PRP hurt, and is there downtime?
Summerview Hair Loss Clinic · Published October 17, 2026
The short answer
PRP involves a blood draw and scalp injections, so discomfort is possible. Pain relief helps reduce it. There is usually no downtime, but temporary tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur. Ask your physician about comfort measures and follow your individual aftercare instructions.
A blood draw and small scalp injections.
Discuss pain relief before treatment.
Usually no downtime; temporary effects are possible.
What if I am nervous about needles?
Say so before treatment. Ask what pain relief will be used and how the team will help you through the visit. You can discuss the procedure at your consultation before deciding whether to proceed.
Can I go back to work afterward?
Many people can return to usual activities without planned time off. That does not mean the scalp will feel completely normal. Discuss your work, exercise and hair-care plans with the physician so your schedule fits the aftercare advice.
What risks should I discuss?
Temporary soreness and bruising can follow injections. Less common risks include bleeding and infection. Ask how your health history affects the risk, what to expect afterward and whom to contact if recovery does not go as expected.
